I decided
to investigate who this Gamergate-proselytizing anti-Brew really is, but the
answer eludes me.
I found out
that TwitterBrew has a Tumblr account, and
it is just so. mind-bogglingly. boring. It just drones on and on and on about
how mean feminists and journalists and 4chan are to “gamers” and there is never
anything shocking, or even the tiniest bit graphic.
The
possibility that Original Brew has anything to do with TwitterBrew is precisely
zero. He wouldn’t be able to create something this toothless if he tried. In
fact, the Tumblr account appears to be hosted by a middle-class white kid who has issues with his dad and older sister.
Original
Brew dealt with hating his father by drawing him as a child-raping, Mark
Twain-cosplaying vampire. TwitterBrew deals with it by reposting a right-wing political
cartoon on his blog and leaving it open in the browser for his Democrat dad to
find.
There’s a
rumor on the internet that Shitty Webcomics is behind Shredded ’14. And, as it
turns out, Shitty Webcomics did in fact try to get their own Shredded Moose-tribute
comic going in the spring of 2014. They even set up a Patreon account to get “Blended
Goose” financed.
They also claim that they contacted Brian Krümm and got his consent.
This is a
really weird thing to do for a comic you think is “stupid and dull”. Frankly,
I’m starting to think Shitty Webcomics at some point morphed into fans of Shredded
Moose, but are too cowardly to admit it. Anyway, here’s Blended Goose:
Bigoted,
bloody and incoherently insane. Not bad at all. Still no nudity, but promising.
Alas, this
is where Blended Goose stopped. The demon that Shitty Webcomics summoned appears
to have ditched them. Apparently, he thought it would be funnier to inspire
Shredded ’14, a comic which is hated at SW. Satan has a great sense of irony.
Well, at
least they *claim* to hate it. But why should we believe anything Shitty
Webcomics say? For all we know, the “rivalling revivals” of SM is all just some
big, stupid game from their side. Maybe they really are behind both. For all we
know, maybe even all those Shredded Moose fan posts earlier this year was just them
trolling the other forums. Who’s to say? On the internet, you don’t know who
anybody really is, or what their real intentions are. Hell, for all we know, all
the activity on Shitty Webcomics is just one single guy posting as several different
people, screaming at himself in a chorus of dissonant voices against the black
background color of his blog for all eternity. This is the internet, there’s no
way to tell.
And
frankly, who cares. The net result is the same: a fascinatingly awful comic is
being reimagined as something that only insults its readers’ intelligence.
If Original
Brew knew what kind of progeny his comic had spawned, I think his reaction
would be something akin to this:
